‘In the last day, that great day of the feast (Tabernacles), Jesus (Yehushua – Jehovah’s Salvation) stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink. He that believeth on Me (The Word), as the Scripture hath said, Out of his belly (heart) shall flow rivers of Living Water! But this spake He of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive . . .’ John 7:37-38
“Therefore with joy shall ye draw Water out of the
Wells of Salvation !” Isaiah 12:3
‘ . . . for out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh !’
Matthew 12:34
“For the Lord GOD (Adoni Yeh-ho-vee’) hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a Word in season to him that is weary: He wakeneth me morning by morning, He wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned . . .!” Isaiah 50:4
“Yea, but they despised the pleasant land, and they believed not His Word: but murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the Voice of the LORD. . .” Psalm 106:24-25
“Thou camest down also upon mount Sinai, and spakest from heaven, and gavest them right judgments, and True laws (Instructions), good statutes and commandments: And madest known unto them Thy holy Sabbath (Thy Rest), and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses Thy servant: And Thou gavest them Bread from heaven for their hunger, and Thou broughtest forth Water for them out of the Rock for their thirst, and promisedst them that they should go in to possess the land which Thou hadst sworn to give them . . . !” Nehemiah 9:13-15
“Wherefore the people did chide (complained, debated) with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? Wherefore do ye tempt (test) the LORD ? . . . And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? . . . they be almost ready to stone me. And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith
thou smotest the river, take in thy hand, and go . . .
Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the Rock in Horeb (mount Sinai – ref: Exodus 3:1), and thou shalt smite the Rock, and there shall come Water out of the It, that the people may drink. And Moses . . . called the name of the place Massah (temptation) and Meribah (quarrel), because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not ?” Exodus 17:2-7
“Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month* . . . And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses (the law) and against Aaron (the prophet – ref: Exodus 7:1). And the people chode (complained, and contended) with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!
And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there ? And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly (6950 – congregation) unto the door of the tabernacle (tent – holy place) of the congregation (4150 moed – festival, appointed feast, solomn assembly, solomnity, appointed time), and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them !
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the Rock before their eyes; and It shall give forth His Water . . . Ask ye rain, in the time of the Latter Rain (ref: Zechariah 10:1) . . . If thou wouldest have asked of Him, He would have given thee Living Water . . . (ref: John 4:10) And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the Rock (ref: I Corinthians 10:4), and said unto them,
Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you Water out of This Rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and
with his rod he smote the Rock twice: and the Water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank . . .”
Numbers 20:1-11
Note: The LORD in His great love and mercy, assured them that they need only ask, and it would be given; but the ancient Israelites, just as us, murmured in their doubt and unbelief. Today, if we will but ask Him, He is ready to forgive (give in exchange for) – His Righteousness for our sins, His Water for our thirst, and His abundance of joy for our shame, sorrow and guilt.
But rather than trust in humble submission, they struck Him in anger, and crucified Him upon the tree of Calvary. And even in this, He has said, ‘Therefore doth My Father love Me, because I lay down My Life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself . . . !” John 10:17-18
‘Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends . . . Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn (grain) of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: But if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit . . . I Am the Good Shepherd: the good Shepherd giveth His Life for the sheep . . . for I Am come that they might have Life, and that they might have it more abundantly . . . !’ John 15:13, 12:24, 10:10-11
“For GOD so loved the world, that He gave* (yielded, delivered, gave up) His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth (trusteth) in Him should not perish, but have Everlasting Life. For GOD sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved (delivered, protected, healed and made whole) !” John 3:16-17
‘Therefore . . . Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity (perversity, mischief) shall not be your ruin . . . For why will ye die, O house of Israel ?’ Ezekiel 18:30-32
“They angered Him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips . . . Many times did He deliver them; but they provoked Him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity. Nevertheless He regarded their affliction, when He heard their cry: and He remembered for them His Covenant (His Oath and Promise), and repented according to the multitude of His mercies !” Psalm 106:32-33, 43-45
Note: It is amazing how perfect the ways of the LORD are! Here we see the children of Israel, the ‘children of the Promise’ brought into dire straights; they had a legitimate need, they really were without water for their families and their flocks? But instead of seeking help from Jehovah (Yehuwah), they began to murmur and complain; Rather than looking to David (The Beloved) they saw only Goliath, the giant before them.
This is exactly the same story we read of in Numbers 14. The children of Israel beheld only the mighty giants towering before them; they walked by sight rather than by faith in the sure Word of Almighty God. Only Joshua and Caleb, men filled with the Spirit of the Living God, men who believed His power-filled Word, were ready both to will and to do His good pleasure.
The first record (Exodus 17) tells us that the LORD commanded Moses to strike the Rock, and it would yield Water. Then again, on the very borders of the promised land (Numbers 20), the LORD commands Moses to only speak to the Rock, and It will yield It’s Water !
Here we are shown the glory and the majesty of the Almighty God; the love of The Father for His wayward and rebellious children. For that Rock is Christ Jesus (Moshiac Yehushua); the flowing Water is the symbol of His Spirit and grace. He was bruised and broken for us, and the chastisement (discipline, instruction) for our peace was upon Him. This first Will and Testament was foreshadowed by Moses breaking the tables of stone at mount Sinai. This ‘breaking’ of the Rock and Covenant had to take place before the LORD could reveal His Glory and grace in providing The Substitute for our transgressions.
For our Father and His Son had a more Perfect Way; the Counsel and a Plan, which had been laid before the foundation of the world. ” . . . And the Counsel of Peace (Shalom) shall be between Them Both !” ref: Zechariah 6:12-13
The LORD (Jehovah, Yehuwah) instructed His servant (Moses) to bring once again to the top of the mount, two tables of stone; and He wrote with His Own Hand . . . written with the Finger (Spirit) of God . . . the second time, all the Words of His Covenant (Oath) to us.
‘Written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the Living God; not in tables of stone, but in the fleshy tables of the heart . . . For the Word was made flesh and dwelt among (in the midst of) us . . . !’ II Corinthians 3:3 & John 1:14
‘That He would grant you, according to the riches of His Glory, to be strengthened with might* (miraculous power) by His
Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith . . . !’ Ephesians 3:16-17
And we are now instructed that no longer must a Sacrifice be made for our sins; no longer must He be beaten or broken for our Redemption and healing; For this He did once . . . !
“For Christ is the end (purpose, completion, design) of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth . . . For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a Better Hope did . . . Which Hope we have as an Anchor of the soul, both Sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil . . . by the Which we draw nigh unto God . . . . Where-fore He is able to save them to the uttermost that come unto GOD by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them . . . Romans 10:4, Hebrews 6:19 & 7:19,25
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy (tender compassion) and grace (the Divine Influence upon the heart, and it’s reflection in the life) to help in time of need . . . . For by One offering (Himself) He hath perfected (accomplished, consecrated in mental and moral character) for ever them that are sanctified . . . Having therefore brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus (Yehushua) . . . . By a new (recently slain) and Living Way, which He hath consecrated for us through the veil, that is to say, His flesh . . . Let us draw near
with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts (thoughts and feelings) sprinkled from an evil conscience,
and our bodies washed with Pure Water !” Hebrews 19-20, 22
‘Now ye are clean through the Word which I have spoken unto you !’ John 15:3
‘For the Words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are Life !’ John 6:63
“And Jesus (Yehushua – Yehuwah’s Salvation) answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the Gift of God, and Who it is that saith to thee, Give Me to drink; thou wouldest have asked
of Him (The Rock), and He would have given thee Living Water . . .
For whosoever drinketh of the Water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the Water that I shall give him shall be in him a Well of Water springing up (forth) into Everlasting Life !”
John 4:10-14
“And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD (Jehovah, Yehuwah), I will Praise Thee: though Thou wast angry with me, Thine anger is turned away, and Thou Comfortedst me. Behold God is my Salvation (H3444 – Yesh-oo-aw); I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my Strength and my Song; He also is become my Salvation !
Therefore with joy shall ye draw Water out of the Wells of Salvation ! And in that day . . . Today, if ye will hear His Voice, harden not your hearts . . . ye shall say, Praise the LORD, call upon His name, declare His doings (works)
among the people, make mention that His name is exalted . . . ! ref: Hebrews 3:7-8
‘For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord (Adoni – Sovereign, King) shall be saved ! . . .’
Romans 10:8-13 & Acts 2:21
‘For He saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted,* and in the day of Salvation have I succoured thee. Behold,
Now is the accepted time; behold, Now is the day of Salvation . . . !”
II Corinthians 6:2 & Luke 4:19 and Isaiah 61:1-2
Sing unto the LORD; for He hath done excellent things: and this is known in all the earth.
Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for Great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst (heart) of thee !”
Isaiah 12:1-6
‘And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; Seek and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you . . . For if ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him ?’ Luke 11:9,13
